Background Story
Sidi is an Arabic masculine title of respect, also written Sayidi, Sayyidi, Si and Sayeedi. In Maghrebi Arabic and Egyptian Arabic it is used often to mean "saint" or "my master". Without the first person possessive pronoun -ī, the word is used similarly in other dialects, where it is equivalent to the modern popular English "Mr". It is also used in Eastern Arabic and by Muslims of the Indian subcontinent in Urdu, where it has less currency than Sayyid, Janab or Sahib.
