Iggy
[ˈɪɡi]Meaning
A diminutive of Ignatius and Ignatia, from the Etruscan name Egnat.
Background Story
Iggy is a short form of the Roman Latin names Ignatia and Ignatius, or of their derivatives in other European languages. Those names go back ultimately to the Etruscan family name Egnat, whose meaning is unknown, with the Latin nominative endings -ia and -ius added by the Romans. The spelling with an initial I later became dominant, possibly because of a resemblance to the Latin word ignis, meaning fire.
