Background Story
Farfel is the Yiddish word for the pasta, from Middle High German varveln. The Baal Shem Tov is said to have eaten farfel every Friday night because the word was similar to farfaln, meaning "wiped out, over and finished", and he considered the noodles symbolic of the end of the old week.
