Amanda
[əˈmændə]Meaning
from Latin amanda, "lovable, worthy of love"
Background Story
Amanda is in part a feminine form of the Latin name Amandus, and in the 17th century it was recreated by authors and poets who based it directly on the Latin amanda, meaning "lovable, worthy of love". The playwright Colley Cibber used it for a character in his play Love's Last Shift in 1696, and it came into regular use during the 19th century. It is used in French, and diminutive forms include Mandy, Manda and Amy.
